Chaplaincy

Supporting our school community

Our School Chaplaincy

  1. Provides and facilitates pastoral care for students, families and staff,
  2. Provides support in cases of bereavement, difficult family relationships, or other crisis and loss situations,
  3. Assists at-‐risk students through specialist support programs,
  4. Supports and participates in school activities such as camps, sports, induction programs, leadership programs, special events, and school  ceremonies,
  5. Participates in and/or facilitates holiday camps and activity programs, and
  6. Supports students exploring their spirituality, regardless of student’s faith or beliefs.

Chaplains provide a listening ear and a caring presence for kids in crisis, and for those who just need a caring, supportive adult.

A chaplaincy program is an optional service introduced into a state school to give support in religious and spiritual matters to students. The program may also deal with ethical matters.

There are various models of chaplaincy services, which contribute to students’ educational and spiritual welfare, provide student mentoring and allow the chaplain to be an additional adult role model in schools. These models include pastoral care, mentoring and education support. A chaplain can undertake a range of activities within a school.

Each month our School Chaplain and two representatives attend the Local Chaplain Committee (LCC) meetings. The LCC is a committee designed to support our local chaplains and is run by Scripture Union. A school’s chaplaincy program complements other welfare services in the school such as those offered by the Guidance Officer or Youth Support Co-ordinator, and is not a counselling service. Local community support is required for the introduction of a chaplaincy program to a school.

At Mudgeeraba Creek our school Chaplain co-ordinates the mentor programs and the Star Fish Club and well as providing support to families, staff and students who have been referred. Referral forms to gain access to the Chaplains services are available from the school office.
